Beaulieu Park Station

Scaffolding Solutions Beaulieu Park

Alltask proudly partnered with J. Murphy & Sons Ltd to provide scaffolding solutions for the construction of the new main station building at Beaulieu Park Station, part of a significant £124 million contract awarded by Network Rail. This contract follows an agreement between Network Rail and Essex County Council to finalise the station’s construction, benefitting Essex County Council and Chelmsford City Council.

Scope of Work
Our primary task involved the installation of a HAKI independent scaffold, designed by PSD Prime Scaffold and Structural Designs Limited, to support the main construction work. This project phase includes building the station facility, and associated infrastructure, and preparing the station for future train services.

Key Features

  • Platforms: Three platforms with a central loop line and new tracks to facilitate both stopping services and fast trains.
  • Accessibility: Step-free access to all platforms via two lifts, accessible toilets, baby change facilities, and a waiting area.
  • Ticketing: Equipped with ticket vending machines, a gate line, and ticketing facilites.
  • Transportation: Pedestrian and cycle access routes, 500 cycle parking spaces, a bus interchange, and dedicated taxi bays.
  • Parking: Over 700 car parking spaces, including Blue Badge bays, motorcycle spaces, and dedicated parking for station staff and emergency services.

Design
PSD Prime Scaffold and Structural Designs Limited provided designs and calculations for a full perimeter access scaffold for the new build station structure. The scaffold’s key purpose was to provide both access to the newly built Gluelam roof and edge protection for operatives installing the roof finishes.

To meet key site deadlines and economize on time required to erect the scaffold, it was decided to install the scaffold using Haki system components, complete with multiple Haki staircases to provide access and egress. The single working level was designed to support an extended netting frame to encapsulate the work area and was later adapted to support various advertising banners for the project.

Execution and Feedback
Due to the site and scaffold’s proximity to one of the main arterial roads in Chelmsford, the project is under constant scrutiny from passers-by. However, with a concise design and flawless installation, high praise has been received for the delivery by the Main Contractor, J. Murphy & Sons Ltd. The scaffolding structure ensured a safe and stable environment for ongoing construction activities, reflecting Alltask’s commitment to excellence and safety.

Conclusion
Beaulieu Park Station, scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, is set to be a pivotal addition to the region, supporting economic growth and improved transportation. The station will be managed by Greater Anglia, offering new train services to London.
