Alltask engineers deliver advanced cryogenic insulation solutions at Grain LNG, supporting EVT and Ledwood in one of the UK’s most critical energy infrastructure projects.
Alltask is proud to play a pivotal role in the expansion of the Grain LNG Terminal, Europe's largest liquefied natural gas facility located on the Isle of Grain, Kent. This project, spearheaded by National Grid, aims to enhance the UK's energy infrastructure by constructing a new 190,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank, equivalent in size to London's Royal Albert Hall.
The construction contract for this state-of-the-art tank, was awarded to a VINCI Construction joint venture comprising Entrepose Contracting, VINCI Construction Grands Projets, and Taylor Woodrow.
The tank features a 9% nickel steel inner containment and a pre-stressed concrete outer shell, designed for optimal safety and efficiency. The project commenced in March 2021 and is due for completion by mid-2025.
In collaboration with EVT (the VINCI joint venture) and Ledwood Mechanical Engineering, Alltask is delivering cryogenic insulation services essential for the safe and efficient storage of LNG at extremely low temperatures. Ledwood is responsible for fabricating 300 tonnes of steel and 280 linear meters of pipework, with Alltask providing specialised insulation solutions to ensure thermal integrity and energy efficiency.
Our expertise in cryogenic insulation is vital to the project's success, ensuring that the new tank operates safely under the extreme conditions required for LNG storage. This expansion will increase the terminal's capacity to supply up to 33% of the UK's gas demand, significantly bolstering the nation's energy security.
